Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Benlottejnr Apps when you use VerseUp. Effective May 13, 2026.

1. Who these terms are with

These terms ("Terms") govern your use of the VerseUp mobile application, the VerseUp website at verseup.benlottejnr.org, and any related services (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Benlottejnr Apps ("we", "us", "our"), a sole proprietorship.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use VerseUp. If you're between 13 and the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed these Terms and agrees to them on your behalf.

We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts. If you believe a child under 13 is using VerseUp, please contact us at verseup-privacy@benlottejnr.org and we will close the account.

3. Your account

  • You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account.
  • Keep your sign-in credentials secure. If you suspect unauthorised access, contact us immediately.
  • You agree to provide accurate information at sign-up and to keep it accurate.
  • One person, one account. Don't create accounts on behalf of someone else without their consent.

4. What the Service is

VerseUp helps you memorize Bible verses through interactive exercises, spaced repetition, leaderboards, and other features described on this website. The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use.

The Service is currently free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future. If we do, the change will be announced in-app and you'll have the choice to opt in.

5. Bible-text licensing

  • The King James Version (KJV) Bible text used in the Service is in the public domain.
  • The World English Bible (WEB) text used in the Service is in the public domain.
  • You may freely read, copy, and share Scripture surfaced through the Service. Our Service's structure, code, design, and user-generated layer (described in Section 7) remain protected as described below.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for anything illegal, harmful, or fraudulent.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service except where applicable law permits.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to interact with the Service.
  • Bypass rate limits, security mechanisms, or access controls.
  • Upload, create, or share user-generated content (collection names, custom verse text, friend messages) that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, harassing, infringing, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Use the Service to harass, impersonate, or threaten another user.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Severe violations may be reported to law enforcement.

7. User-generated content

You can create your own collections, lessons, and notes inside the app ("Your Content"). Your Content stays yours — you retain all ownership rights. By creating Your Content in the Service, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, store, copy, display, and back up Your Content for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you and (where applicable) the other users you've shared it with.

You confirm that Your Content does not infringe anyone else's rights. We may remove content that is reported as infringing under our DMCA policy.

8. Our intellectual property

The VerseUp app, website, logo, brand, source code, design language, and all original content (other than public-domain Bible text and Your Content) are owned by Benlottejnr Apps and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You receive a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service while these Terms remain in force.

9. Notifications & communications

When you create an account we send you transactional emails (account verification, password resets, deletion confirmations). You cannot opt out of these while your account is active because they are essential to the Service. You can disable push notifications at any time in the app or in your device settings; doing so does not affect the Service beyond ending those notifications.

10. Service availability

We aim to keep VerseUp available 24/7 but we don't promise uninterrupted service. We may take the Service offline for maintenance, upgrades, security incidents, or reasons outside our control. We don't owe you a refund or credit for downtime; the Service is free of charge.

11. Termination

You can delete your account at any time via the delete-account page or by writing to verseup-support@benlottejnr.org.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately if you breach these Terms, if continued access creates risk for us or other users, or if required by law. Sections that should reasonably survive (intellectual property, indemnity, disclaimers, governing law) survive termination.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT VERSE TRANSLATIONS WILL BE FREE FROM ALL TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS.

VerseUp is a memorization aid, not a substitute for personal Scripture study, theological counsel, or pastoral care.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BENLOTTEJNR APPS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100), OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PRIOR TWELVE MONTHS — WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

14. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Benlottejnr Apps harmless from claims, damages, and costs arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will:

  • Update the "Effective" date below.
  • Post a notice in the app for material changes.
  • If the change materially reduces your rights, give 30 days' notice before the change takes effect.

Continued use of the Service after the Terms change means you accept the new Terms.

16. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. The Service is operated from the United States. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

If any part of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
